Edinburgh Taxi Driver Wins Life-Changing Amount On Who Wants to Be a Millionaire

An Edinburgh taxi driver took home £125,000 after winning high on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Ray Mann demonstrated some seriously impressive general knowledge en route to the life-changing prize win.

In a weird twist of fate he revealed during the show that he once picked up Julian Fellows in his cab while working in the city – after a question about the actor came up.

Ray, who is from Musselburgh, decided to take the money after getting stuck on a question about which country Germany shares its longest land border with.

He now hopes to take a nice holiday with his wife, when Covid-19 rules allow of course.

The cab driver initially won his spot in the hot-seat by becoming the fastest-finger-in the first round on a question about withdrawing cash from an ATM, and in which order you do the following actions – take cash, enter PIN, insert cash and select amount.

He managed to plot his way through the game wisely before becoming unstuck in a question about Meryl Streep films at £64,000.

The question Ray faced was: “In which of these films does Meryl Streep play a wholly fictional character and not one based on a real person?” The answers available were Out of Africa, The Hours, The Post and Suffragette.

He used a phone a friend hoping that his pal Mike would help but stumbled over his words and didn’t read the question out correctly. It didn’t matter though, as his friend didn’t know the answer.

After using all three lifelines he settled on the correct answer – The Post.

After disclosing he had always “loathed Meryl Streep films”, Jeremy said he also had never seen The Post, but was “99.9 per cent certain The Post is a real life film with real life people.

He then chose to take the money on his next question, rather than risking losing tens of thousands of pounds.

The final question Ray would get was: “Which country shares the longest land border with Germany?”

The potential answers were Austria, France, Netherlands and Poland.

Ray said he would have chosen Poland but decided to call it quits with his winnings of £125,000. The correct answer was Austria.

With the taxi industry taking huge hits throughout the lockdown periods, Ray, just like most other taxi drivers, will have seen his earnings suffer greatly. A win like this will let Ray breathe a sigh of relief

Well done, Ray!
