Hockey is a challenging sport. The more experience you have at it, the better off you will be. Pulling off the perfect hockey deke whether you are on traditional ice, or synthetic ice is an amazing feat that takes tons of practice and skill. The first thing you would need to do in order to pull a sick hockey deke is to practice. When you practice every day your moves and countermoves become like second nature because you get so used to using them.
Train Your Passing Skills
Sometimes to pull off a fantastic feat you need a little help from your teammates. You can’t hog the puck and expect to be the best you can be by yourself. Knowing how to pass, and when to pass is one of the best weapons you can have on the rink The best way to sharpen your passing skills is to use a hockey passer rebounder that will allow you to practice on your own at home. One of the most powerful drills that you can use to practice is the one-timer rebound shot. It is pretty simple to do. Set your rebounder up on whatever side you prefer, right or left. Position yourself with your shooting tarp in front of you, and the hockey passer on your side. Do a quick pass to the rebounder so that it pops the puck right back at you, then take a sniper shot to the goal on your tarp. Each time you repeat this drill do it faster. This is an awesome skill to build that will help you aim your shots for the deke.
Train Your Skating Skills
There is no doubt about it, if you don’t have the skills to stay on your skates, you will not do well in hockey. In order to fake the best of the fakers, you have to be able to handle yourself with finesse. Skating takes a lot of practice. Skating with finesse takes even more. There are a couple of options for people that want to practice their skating moves. If you prefer to practice your ice skating skills, you will need to either go to an ice rink or install some synthetic ice panels at your home. Another option is rollerblades. Although rollerblades are not the same as ice skates, they do allow you to practice your balance and your finesse. In order to bring that puck from one side of the rink and orchestrate a perfect deke, you need to be able to skate like a pro. Set up a training area on your flooring with cones and train yourself to skate around them with speed and precision over and over again. As soon as you get fast and agile, bring a puck, and stick into the exercise.
Train Your Shooting Skills
It is most obvious that if you want to become a deke master you have to know how to shoot pucks for points. You don’t want to shoot just to slap the puck, you want to hit that goal and score every time you go for it. How do you achieve that? Practice. Probably the most important training aid you can have when you are practicing to be a champion is a hockey shooting tarp. They are fashioned so that a player can pinpoint problem areas and work on them over and over again until they reach perfection. The best way to get the most out of your practice is to get yourself a huge pile of pucks to work with so that you don’t have to stop what you are doing and chase each one after a shot. Position yourself 10 or 12 feet in front of your tarp and aim for the target that is hardest for you to hit on the goaltender. Keep hitting that spot until it becomes easy.
Practice Practice Practice
We can’t stress enough about the importance of practice. The only way you can get better at what you do is by doing it, over and over again. Keep it up and always have a positive attitude. When it is time to pull that deke move and win the game, everything that you have learned about the game will come into focus when you need it the most.
